It appears the reigning WNBA champions are looking to get even more involved with the community. The New York Liberty, who have played their home games at Barclays Center since 2021, are set to open a brand-new youth training facility coming soon to Brooklyn.
The Liberty have been one of the league’s most consistent franchises, making the playoffs in 19 of their 20 seasons. Now, fresh off winning the first title in franchise history, they’re poised to elevate their presence even further with a new basketball development hub.
On Tuesday, BSE Global, the parent company of both the Brooklyn Nets and the Liberty, announced plans for a major new project.
According to Myles Ehrlich of Winsidr it will be "an 18,600-square-foot Brooklyn Basketball Training Center. It will be a multi-court youth basketball training facility located across from Barclays Center on Flatbush Avenue.”

The release emphasized that the facility will be more than just a training space; it will be a platform for community impact: “Operated by BSE Global’s flagship youth basketball program, Brooklyn Basketball, [it’s] created to establish a community-first basketball experience dedicated to nurturing young basketball players and enthusiasts to unlock their full potential on and off the court.”
Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello, who guided the team to its first WNBA championship, shared her thoughts on the initiative.
“We aim to build the future of the game and empower our community, especially young girls to dream big," Brondello said. "Who knows? Some of them might be playing across the street at Barclays Center for the New York Liberty one day.”
The addition of the new facility not only provides the Liberty with enhanced resources for player development but also emphasizes the franchise’s growing influence on and off the court. The location, mere steps from their home arena, adds convenience and continuity to their operations.
In addition to the Liberty, the Barclays Center is also home to the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA and the LIU Sharks men’s college basketball team. The New York Islanders, who previously shared the arena, moved out in 2020. With this new development, the borough’s basketball footprint continues to grow.
