Watching New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart leave Saturday night's 101-99 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks probably scared some Liberty fans. Sources indicate, though, that the severity of Stewart's injury to her right leg isn't as serious as first thought.
Stewart was forced to leave the WNBA contest against the Sparks almost four minutes into the game. According to The Associated Press, Stewart appeared to injure her leg while running up the court. Once it became apparent that she could not go on playing, Stewart left the court. She finished with three points and one rebound.
Breanna Stewart was been ruled out for the rest of the game with what the Liberty are calling a lower leg injury.

Stewart also never returned to the Liberty's bench for the rest of the game. According to the AP report, Stewart, who took part in the WNBA All-Star Game as a forward, went through an imaging process. Nothing reportedly turned up in the testing, according to a person who spoke on anonymity with the AP.
As of Sunday afternoon, the Liberty had not put out an official statement on Stewart's health. When asked about Stewart's injury after the game, Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello didn't offer any further insights.
“No update, hopefully she’ll be OK,” Brondello said. With the loss to the Sparks, New York saw its five-game win streak end.
Stewart appeared to be OK in New York's Friday victory over the Phoenix Mercury despite just scoring six points and grabbing eight rebounds. Her scoring mark there was way below her season average of 19 points.
At this point, the Liberty are 17-7 overall and are four games behind the front-running Minnesota Lynx. Stewart is an important part of the Liberty's offensive plans. For New York, the team hopes that Stewart will be able to make a quick return to the lineup.
