'Long Story Short. I’m Home': DeWanna Bonner Hypes Up Mercury Arrival After Leaving Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever
Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas (25) slaps hands with Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner (14) during the first quarter against the Minnesota Lynx at PHX Arena on July 9, 2025.

DeWanna Bonner’s WNBA journey comes full circle. After being cleared by the Indiana Fever, DeWanna Bonner officially signed with the Phoenix Mercury, taking her back home to where her WNBA career was born.

“Long story short. I’m Home,” DeWanna Bonner tweeted on X.

Her announcement sent ripples across the league—her stats and legacy have always sparked headlines. Bonner owns the active record for most career games (511), minutes (15,441), and is third on the all-time scoring list with 7,546 points. Two WNBA rings and six All-Stars.

The move also sparked reactions from former teammates. Natasha Howard chimed in on X:

“Congratulations homie I’m so happy for you”

Bonner’s return brings veteran firepower to Phoenix’s title-contending squad. The Mercury, riding high after adding Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally, welcomes back a versatile forward with championship pedigree. Bonner’s leadership and shooting range give the team an edge on both ends of the floor.

Her departure from the Indiana Fever wasn’t drama-free. Sources say Bonner felt the fit wasn’t right and asked for the move. She only averaged 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds over nine games, which was well below her career norms, but she expressed gratitude to the Fever for the experience.

It all comes to full-circle redemption in this play. DeWanna Bonner returns to Phoenix, back home with the fans who she had on her back since her WNBA birth.

Attitude. Swag. And a chip on her shoulder. At 37 years young, she’s primed for another run at glory.

DeWanna Bonner Explains Why She’s “Home” in Phoenix Mercury Return

DeWanna Bonner made a clear statement when she re-signed with the Phoenix Mercury: she’s come home. Nostalgia. Love, Familiarity. It was all of these things for her.

Bonner explained she chose Phoenix over other options because the Mercury offered exactly what she needed at this stage: a winning culture and personal connection.

“It’s home. I know I’m going to get the love and the support.”

This isn’t mere talk. Bonner returns to a Phoenix locker room already featuring her fiancée Alyssa Thomas plus veteran leaders like Diana Taurasi and Kahleah Copper (pre-injury), and emerging stars tracing their roots to Mercury’s legacy of resilience.

Coming off a brief, uncomfortable stint with the Indiana Fever, Bonner sought more than stats. She wanted a sense of belonging. Phoenix had chemistry. They wanted her. That mix of emotion and opportunity was too much to pass up.

Now at 37, DeWanna Bonner is back on her own terms.
