Marina Mabrey Refuses To Apologize For 'Cheap Shot' On Caitlin Clark

Marina Mabrey has become public enemy No. 1 in the eyes of many due to her altercation with Caitlin Clark earlier this week.

During Tuesday night's game between the Connecticut Sun and Indiana Fever, tempers flared when Jacy Sheldon poked Clark in the eye. The All-Star guard responded by shoving Sheldon. Just a few seconds later, Mabrey stepped in and bumped Clark to the ground.

Mabrey received a technical foul for her scuffle with Clark. It was then upgraded to a flagrant 2 on Wednesday. Sophie Cunningham, who also received a flagrant 2, retaliated by committing a really hard foul on Sheldon during the fourth quarter of the Fever-Sun game.

Obviously, Fever coach Stephanie White wasn't thrilled about Mabrey's antics on Tuesday night.

"I think it was pretty obvious that stuff was brewing, right? When the officials don't get control of the ballgame, when they allow that stuff to happen, and it's been happening all season long, all season long... It's not just this game. It's been happening all season long," White told reporters. "You've got competitive women who are the best in the world at what they do, and when you allow them to play physical, and you allow these things to happen, they're going to compete, and they're going to have their teammates' backs."

As for Mabrey, well, let's just say she's not sorry.

Mabrey was reportedly addressing commenters on a recent live stream. When someone brought up her scuffle with Clark, she shared her unfiltered thoughts.

"Damned if I do, damned if I don't," Mabrey said, via Sports Illustrated.

Sun head coach Rachid Meziane has already let Mabrey know that he supports her.

"She just tried to be between two players," Meziane said. "The ref has to do their job to clean the game, and make sure that the best team won the game and not just who is more physical."

The Fever and Sun will meet again on July 15. We'd have to imagine that game will draw massive ratings.
