SEATTLE — The Phoenix Mercury looks for its third win in a row, going against the Seattle Storm on Friday, May 23.
Mercury Preview
The Mercury has started the season 2-0, showing a promising future with new faces and without at full strength. Its latest win came on May 21, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks in a fourth-quarter showdown, 89-86.
Satou Sabally has taken over Phoenix’s offense, averaging 26 points, shooting 45.5% from the field and 30.8% from three. Alyssa Thomas is right behind Sabally averaging 19.5 points, shooting 65.2% from the field and averaging 6.5 assists.
Sabally, Thomas and newcomer Kathryn Westbeld lead Phoenix in rebounding, averaging 5.5, 6.0 and 5.5 boards per game, respectively.
Seattle Preview
The Storm rebounded after its first game loss against the Mercury on May 17, 81-59. Seattle defeated the Dallas Wings on May 19, 79-71. The Storm return home to face Phoenix for the second time in a week.
Seattle’s leading scorer, Skylar Diggins, is averaging 21 points per game while shooting 43.3% from the field and 57.1% from three-point range. Diggins also has an average of 6.5 assists. Nneka Ogwumike comes just behind her, averaging 17.5 points per game on 48.4% shooting, including 25% for three.
Ogwumike leads the Storm in rebounds, averaging 12.5, with Ezi Magbegor averaging eight.
