LAS VEGAS — The Phoenix Mercury starts a four-game road trip this weekend, with their first game against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, June 15.
Mercury Preview
Phoenix defeated the Dallas Wings, 93-80, behind strong performances from Satou Sabally and a returning Alyssa Thomas on June 11. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first quarter, but the Mercury gained ground in the next three.
Even with Paige Bueckers’ 35-point performance and going six-for-six to start the game, the Wings couldn’t capitalize.
Sabally scored 20 points, shooting 46.7% from the field and 40% from three-point range. Thomas had 20 points, 10 assists and two steals in her return.
The Mercury have improved to 7-4 for the season and continue to hold second in the Western Conference and fourth in the league.
Aces Preview
Las Vegas had a comeback victory against the Dallas, 88-84, on June 13. With star A’ja Wilson sidelined due to concussion protocol, the Aces struggled to keep their offensive momentum throughout the game. The Wings opened the third quarter with an 18-0 run, cutting a nine-point deficit to a 58-49 lead. However, turnovers hurt Dallas in the final minutes of the game.
The Aces went on a 17-2 run of their own, with Jackie Young shooting two free throws to capture the win.
Young led the scoring for Vegas with 28 points, shooting 43.8% from the paint and shooting 11-for-11 on free throws.
The Aces are now 5-4 and are fourth in the Western Conference and sixth in the league.
