WNBA superstar Brittney Griner has been a part of the Phoenix Mercury for the duration of her career. That could change in 2025 after the 12-year vet announced that she would be testing free agency for the first time.
Griner became front page news on Tuesday after word got out she was utilizing the inaugural season of the Unrivaled League to up her market value. She never exclusively said she wasn’t coming back to Phoenix; however, her actions say otherwise.

Griner has yet to remove any photos in a Mercury uniform from her page. Her wife Cherelle also unfollowed the organization.
The center put together another stellar year in Phoenix, averaging 17.8 points per game, the 11th best in the league. Her 6.6 rebounds per game were also in the top 20 in The W. She is currently averaging 10 points per game in Unrivaled.
Griner put together back-to-back All-Star seasons following her controversial incarceration in Russia for possession of marijuana vapor cartridges in a Russian airport.
Just over two years ago, Brittney Griner was serving a prison sentence in Russia, where she was detained while playing in the country to earn extra money during the WNBA offseason.
