Mercury’s Alyssa Thomas named as WNBA Peak Performer

PHOENIX — Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas was named one of the WNBA’s Peak Performers after leading the league in assists this season.

The Mercury forward has been an assist machine, averaging 9.2 assists per game this season. She leads the league in total assists, with 357 in her first year in the desert — a single-season record.

Thomas now joins Phoenix legend Diana Taurasi as the only players in franchise history to be named Peak Performers in assists. Taurasi earned the honor in 2014 when she averaged 5.6 assists per game.

The numbers don’t lie. This season, three stars led the way in points, rebounds and assists. Introducing your 2025 WNBA Peak Performers:

Thomas didn’t just contribute with assists — she was an all-around player. She recorded eight triple-doubles this season, more than the rest of the league combined. She finished her first year in Phoenix averaging 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals.

The Mercury forward also joins elite company as the only player in WNBA history to average at least 15 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 1 steal per game while shooting over 50% from the field in a season.

The only other basketball players to achieve the feat? Magic Johnson, LeBron James and Nikola Jokic.

Now, Thomas and the Mercury are focused on what’s ahead as the regular season has wrapped up, with playoffs beginning this weekend.

The Phoenix Mercury will host the New York Liberty in Game 1 of the first round of the WNBA playoffs on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m.
