Mercury's Sami Whitcomb Sets Scoring Record in First Quarter vs. Wings

Phoenix Mercury's shooting guard Sami Whitcomb was firing from all cylinders in the first quarter on Monday. The Mercury faced Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings, and Whitcomb was ready to ball. The American-Australian guard scored 19 points in the opening period and was unstoppable from beyond the arc. The veteran shooting guard shot 4-for-5 on her attempts from downtown.

Whitcomb has always been a fearless scorer, making sure her teammates could count on her when needed. This season, he's averaging 9.6 points on 35% shooting from deep, which is the third-best scoring average of her career.

Because of her willingness to shoot the basketball, her teammates have full confidence in Whitcomb whenever she attempts shots. On Monday, her full shooting arsenal was in full display, making the Wings' defense pay.

With her impressive scoring in the first quarter, she set a scoring record. Whitcomb has scored 2,000 points in her career, which was recognized by the Mercury on X.

Whitcomb's 19-point outing was the most points she's scored in a quarter. When she had her 30-point game against the Atlanta Dream in 2021, which was her career-high, the most she had in a quarter was 12 points.
