Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky handed the Minnesota Lynx their fourth loss of the season on Saturday, improving their record to 7-13 in the process.
Unsurprisingly, Reese posted yet another impressive stat line for the Sky. The former LSU star had 19 points and 11 rebounds, extending her streak of consecutive double-doubles to eight games. She wasn't the only notable player for Chicago who dominated the boards against Minnesota.
Kamilla Cardoso had 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in the Sky's 87-81 win over the Lynx.
Apparently, this Saturday's loss has sent the Lynx and their front office back to the drawing board.
Just hours after that game went final, the Lynx waived Alissa Pili. The timing of this move is a bit interesting to say the least.
Pili, the No. 8 pick in last year's draft, was averaging 1.9 points and 1.2 rebounds per game for the Lynx this season.
Prior to going pro in 2024, Pili had an incredible college career. She spent three seasons at USC before transferring to Utah. During her final season of college hoops, she averaged 21.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Utes. Not only was she named Pac-12 Player of the Year in 2023, she earned All-American honors in 2024.
Despite this Saturday's loss, the Lynx remain in first place in the WNBA standings. They have a three-game cushion over the Phoenix Mercury.
The Lynx have not lost back-to-back games all season. They'll try to keep that trend going on Monday when they square off against the Sky in a rematch.
Tipoff for Monday's game is at 8 p.m. ET.
