Minnesota Lynx Rookie to Ungergo Surgery
USA TODAY Sports

Just weeks before the start of the 2025 WNBA season, the Minnesota Lynx are already down one player. The team announced that rookie forward Aubrey Griffin will undergo arthroscopic surgery on her left knee.

She will enter rehab following the procedure, though no timetable has been given for her return.

Griffin was selected with the No.37 pick in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Despite entering the league on a high note, notably winning a national championship last season, the 6-foot-1 forward has faced significant setbacks throughout her time with the Huskies.

In  2022, she underwent back surgery to repair a disk issue, and she tore her ACL in her left knee in January 2024, causing her to miss most of last season and the one prior.

She made a remarkable return in January 2025, helping lift UConn to the national title.

Despite the numerous injuries, Griffin emerged as a pivotal contributor, averaging  7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 126 games throughout five seasons for coach Geno Auriemma and the Huskies.

The Lynx look to build on the great success they experienced last season, finishing 30-10 and going to the WNBA Finals, where they fell to the New York Liberty

When healthy, Griffin can be a pivotal rotational player for a team with championship aspirations .

The WNBA season tips off on May 16 when the Lynx open against the Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings.
