Mystics Rookie Cheers For the Team's Season Opener Vs the Dream
Geoff Burke-Imagn Images

WNBA rookie Georgia Amoore suffered an unfortunate ACL injury that ruled her out of the entire 2025 season. On Friday, the Washington Mystics played their first game og the season against the Atlanta Dream without the rookie guard. It was reported before their game that Amoore underwent a successful surgery to repair her injury.

Even without their No. 6 pick of the 2025 draft, the Mystics outlasted the Dream and secured a 94-90 victory. Her fellow rookies, Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen, had impressive performances to start their careers.

Citron had 19 points on 85.7% shooting from the field. Iriafen, meanwhile, had 14 points and four rebounds against the Dream.

Because of her surgery, Amoore couldn't be with the team. However, the rookie guard was in full support of the team and posted an update on her Instagram, showing how she's cheering for Washington.

"letssss goooooooo," the rookie posted.

The team did not forget about their injured player. During their first game of the year, they stuck a cut-out picture of Amoore on the bench.

The rookie guard spent five years in college, four with Virginia Tech and her senior year at Kentucky. Although she's 5-foot-6, that hasn't hindered her from making a significant difference offensively.

Throughout her entire college career, Amoore was a standout scorer, almost averaging 20 points in her final two years. During her first four years, she averaged 14.7 points and 5.2 assists on 36.1% shooting from deep. In her final year, the 24-year-old guard put up 19.6 points and 6.9 assists.

Amoore was a decorated college star, winning multiple awards during her stint. She was the ACC tournament MVP in 2023, a two-time First-team All-ACC and First-team All-ACC in 2025. Those are just a few of what she achieved at the collegiate level.

Kings Predicted to Send Malik Monk to Lakers for $66 Million Duo in Offseason Trade

As the 2025-26 NBA season nears, one team that continues to be the subject of trade rumors is the Sacramento Kings. Of course, the Kings elected to keep their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVien together this offseason despite many around the league expecting them to begin a rebuild. Sacramento also made some notable additions to their roster this summer as they selected Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud in the 2025 draft and added Dennis Schroder in free agency. While the Kings have upgraded their roster this offseason, some of their players continue to be in trade rumors, primarily for Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga who Sacramento is reportedly targeting. For the Kings, multiple players have come up in trad rumors this summer but none more than Malik Monk who is coming off the best season of his NBA career. Despite this, the Kings have elected to keep Monk thus far but that could change as they continue to look for ways to upgrade their roster even more this offseason to chase a playoff spot next season. Kings predicted to trade Malik Monk to Lakers With this in mind, SB Nations’ Jacob Rude recently released a mock trade that would send Malik Monk to the Los Angeles Lakers for two players. In the trade, the Kings would land Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber and a lottery protected 2031 first-round pick from the Lakers in return for Monk. This trade does not make a ton of sense for the Kings as they would swap one of the best scorers on their roster for two veterans who struggled last season and a lottery protected first-round pick. Both Vincent and Kleber would be solid additions to the Kings’ roster as they would fill two glaring holes in their rotation, but Sacramento would likely want more in return for Monk, especially with him coming off the best season of his career. Because of this, it is highly unlikely that the Kings would agree to this trade as they could possibly receive a larger return for their veteran guard from another team this offseason.

LeBron James Stunned by Son’s Change in Appearance

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is in peak off-season mode, enjoying his time off while staying ready for his upcoming 23rd season in the NBA, eighth with Los Angeles. James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.2 assists for the Lakers last season. On a separate note, his youngest son, Bryce James, is preparing for his first collegiate season with the Arizona Wildcats, where he committed early in 2025. Before this new chapter, he spent most of his high school basketball career playing for Sierra Canyon, where he won a State Division 1 title in his senior year. Meanwhile, upon Bryce's first trip back home since leaving for college, James was taken aback by his appearance. In the Lakers star's latest Instagram story, he welcomes home his youngest son after his first stint away at Arizona. Within the video, James is overcome with excitement as he points out Bryce's latest physical change to his 159 million followers: his beard. "Y'all see his beard? Oh my goodness!" said James. Born in 2007, Bryce is just 18 years old and stands 6'6 tall ahead of his first season with the Wildcats. Primarily playing the shooting guard position, he's poised for a bright future under legendary coach Tommy Lloyd, who is entering his fifth season with the team. Lloyd's 61 wins in his first two seasons with Arizona are an NCAA Division 1 record. The Wildcats will open their season on November 3 against the defending champion Florida Gators at a neutral site in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ben Simmons to Knicks Receives Update After Report on Tuesday

After their conference finals appearance last season, the New York Knicks are now considered one of the favorites to represent the East in the NBA Finals next year. New York has a talented roster consisting of many players who can contribute on both sides of the ball. However, in order for them to take it to the next level and establish themselves as legitimate title contenders, they need to bolster the rest of their roster. So far this offseason, the Knicks have signed Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. However, they have been linked to other names as they look to fill their final roster spot. The most prominent name they may be interested in is former No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons. However, on Tuesday, a new report surfaced that may not bode well for his chances of joining the Knicks. While Simmons may be the biggest name, he is not the only player the Knicks are considering for their final roster spot. In addition to the former Philadelphia 76ers star, New York is reportedly interested in re-signing Landry Shamet. Shamet appeared in 50 games for the Knicks last season, shooting 39.7% from beyond the arc on 3.1 attempts per game. The Kansas City native played a solid role off the bench for the team, and that is why they reportedly have interest in a reunion, according to SNY's Ian Begley. “I’m talking about Shamet, because I think there is still mutual interest there. If I’m guessing, I’m guessing it ends up with Shamet getting one of those spots," Begley said on The Putback. The Knicks Have a Decision to Make As it stands, it seems safe to assume that the Knicks will sign either Shamet or Simmons to their final open roster spot. There are pros and cons to bringing each of them into the mix, but based on Begley's report, the team will likely stick with re-signing a familiar face. Shamet was a solid bench player for the Knicks last season, and he provides a lot of value, particularly as a three-point shooter. While Simmons could be an intriguing addition for the team, he does not have a similar skillset to the 28-year-old. Regardless, the Knicks will have a tough choice ahead of them as they look to have another strong season. Until something becomes official, the statuses of Simmons and Shamet will be worth monitoring. However, it currently seems like the Knicks are leaning in one direction, and it is opposite from the one that would lead to them bringing in the former Rookie of the Year.

Biggest reason why Padres will top Dodgers in NL West revealed

With the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres locked in a battle for the top of the National League West, one MLB insider believes the Padres have a distinct edge that will propel them to the division title. In a "Foul Territory" interview on Tuesday, MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic predicted the San Diego's bullpen could be the difference between the Padres winning the NL West and potentially making the postseason as a wild-card team. San Diego made a big move at the MLB trade deadline to strengthen its bullpen, getting Mason Miller from the Athletics. In his first five games with the Padres, the 26-year-old right-hander has struck out 12 of the 20 batters he has faced, averaging a preposterous 20.3 strikeouts per nine innings. Three of those appearances have also resulted in holds as Miller has entered the game in the seventh or eighth inning ahead of closer Robert Suarez. Suarez leads all relievers with 33 saves this season and has been especially dominant since the All-Star break, posting a 1.86 ERA over 9.2 innings. That has continued what has been an incredibly strong season overall for the Padres bullpen. Entering Tuesday's play, the Padres' 3.02 cumulative ERA from their relievers is the best of any MLB team. Now, however, comes one of the biggest tests of Bowden's theory that San Diego's bullpen can be a difference-maker in the division. With the Dodgers holding a 1.0-game lead over the Padres in the division heading into Tuesday's play, many are already looking ahead to the next two weekends as games that will decide which team could earn not only the NL West title but also a potential first-round postseason bye. On Friday, the Padres visit Chavez Ravine for three games. On the following Friday (Aug. 22), the Dodgers invade Petco Park for a three-game set. Those six games are the last regular-season matchups between the two division titans and represent a chance for the Padres to avenge earlier losses to the Dodgers, who hold a 5-2 edge over San Diego in their previous encounters this season.
