The New York Liberty have hit a wall after a dominant start to the 2025 WNBA season.
The reigning champions have now lost their last five of seven, including a 90-81 loss on the road to the 11-5 Atlanta Dream on Sunday.
The Dream got the better of the Liberty out of the gate, controlling most of the first half, and finding themselves up as much as 20 points heading into halftime.
The Liberty offensive struggles were on full display during the game, as two of the team's leading scorers, Breanna Stewart and Natasha Cloud, both combined for 18 points in the first quarter.
They both struggled to find their rhythm in the second, allowing the Dream to build their massive lead.
The Dream's dominance would carry into the third and most of the fourth quarter, and they would control most of the game. New York would try to mount a final comeback in the third; however, it was not enough to help the Liberty seal the win.
In the end, Atlanta Brionna Jones would prove to be too much for the Liberty to handle, dropping 21 points. Allisha Gray had 20 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, and
Breanna Stewart led all scorers for the Liberty, posting 21 points and Natasha Cloud scored 20 points.
Injuries have been the Achilles heel for the Liberty thus far throughout the season. Jonquel Jones, who has been out due to an ankle injury, while Leonie Fitch is currently overseas with the German National Team, leaving their frontcourt thin.
The Liberty started the season with a 9-0 record, However the Liberty find themselves amid a slump as they navigate a tough stretch of the schedule.They face some of the WNBA in the Seattle Storm and Las Vegas Aces in the coming days.
They would look to pieces back together when they take on the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday, July 3rd.
