The Indiana Fever are coming off a dominant 92-70 victory over the Chicago Sky on Saturday night to improve to 18-14 overall and win six of their last eight games— all without star point guard Caitlin Clark.
However, the team was even more shorthanded against the Sky after guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald suffered season-ending injuries in Thursday’s matchup against the Phoenix Mercury.
That setback prompted the Fever to act quickly, signing 11-year veteran and 2019 All-Star Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract on Sunday.
Sims last played for the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this year, starting 11 games and averaging 9.8 points and 3.5 assists per game.
Following the signing, a video resurfaced on social media of Sims discussing her new teammate Caitlin Clark during her time last season with the Dallas Wings.
“Everybody's been watching Caitlin, she's a great player," Sims said in June of last year. "She's playing at a very high level... Don't know her as a person, but she's a great player. What she does, what she's been doing since game one to now... got nothing but respect for her."

The Fever remain thin at the guard position, but Sims brings valuable veteran experience and the ability to contribute immediately, as Clark continues to rehab a groin injury that has kept her sidelined for the last 10 games.
Sims’ career has spanned several teams. After a standout collegiate run at Baylor, she has played for the Tulsa Shock, had two stints each with the Dallas Wings and Los Angeles Sparks, and also spent time with the Minnesota Lynx, Atlanta Dream, and Connecticut Sun.
For her career, Sims is averaging 11.2 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.5 rebounds. She will wear No. 1 for the Fever.
