Offense Concludes Week Two Of Athletes Unlimited Basketball

When it comes to scoring in Athletes Unlimited Basketball, there is no shortage of buckets by the teams. In fact, three of the four teams scored 90+ points in the final doubleheader of the week. With captains to be decided, here is a recap of Games Eleven and Twelve at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.

Game Eleven: Eclipse Vs. Rhythm

Here, Washington Mystics forward Alysha Clark and the Eclipse looked to get their second win of the week. For Connecticut Sun forward Aneesah Morrow and the Rhythm, they were looking for their first win.

The first quarter was tight as the Rhythm took a 26 – 24 lead over the Eclipse. Morrow led the Rhythm with nine points in the quarter. Guard Aerial Powers of the Indiana Fever added six points. Center Mercedes Russell scored 10 points for the Eclipse.

In the second quarter, neither team scored 20 points as the Eclipse had 18 points to the Rhythm’s 17. Russell and Sun center Tina Charles each put up five points in the quarter for the Eclipse. Guards Deja Kelly and Zia Cooke scored six and five points, respectively, for the Rhythm. At halftime, the Rhythm took a one-point lead of 43 – 42 over the Eclipse.

Quarter number three saw the offenses finding a groove with a combined 50 points (27 by the Eclipse and 23 by the Rhythm). In the quarter, Charles and guard/forward Aaliyah Nye of the Las Vegas Aces scored six points each as Clark had five points for the Eclipse.

Powers scored six points while Aces forward NaLyssa Smith and Cooke had five points apiece for the Rhythm. Entering the fourth quarter, the Eclipse held a 69 – 66 lead.

Similar to the third quarter, the fans in Nashville were treated to a high-scoring fourth. In this case, the Eclispe and Rhythm scored a combined 53 points. While the Rhythm had 25 points, the Eclipse edged them with 28, getting the 97 – 91 victory.

Eclipse Vs. Rhythm Stats Recap

Russell garnered MVP 1 Honors as she scored 23 points on eight-of-nine shooting from the field for the Eclipse. Next, Charles and her 20 points with eight rebounds gave her MVP 2 honors as Nye won MVP 3 Honors with 19 points and five assists. Finally, Peddy scored 11 points as Alissa Pili put up 10 in 17 minutes of action.

Looking at the Rhythm, Smith led the squad in scoring with 19 points while Powers contributed 18 points. Cooke had 17 points, but Morrow notched her fourth double-double on the season. She had 17 points and 19 boards, which tied the Athletes Unlimited Basketball single-game mark.

Game Twelve: Glow Vs. Gold Rush

As for this game, New York Liberty guard Rebekah Gardner and the Glow looked to go 3-0 for the week. Kaitlyn Chen and the Gold Rush were in search of win No. 2 for the week. Following the end of quarter number one, it was low-scoring as the Glow were down 22 – 15.

Guard Kia Nurse of the Chicago Sky led the Gold Rush with five points in the quarter. Additionally, Gardner hit two three-pointers for the Glow, accounting for her six points.

The second quarter saw the Glow outscoring the Gold Rush by a 26 – 19 margin. Guard Odyssey Sims scored six points in the quarter for the Glow. Center/Forward Natasha Mack of the Phoenix Mercury and Aces guard Kierstan Bell each scored five points. Nurse, guard Bree Hall of the Fever, and forward Teana Muldrow had five points each for the Gold Rush in the quarter.

At the half, the game was tied at 41 – 41.

In the third quarter, the Gold Rush defense had little answers for the Glow’s offensive surge. The Glow shot 61.9 percent from the field, putting up 33 points in the quarter. Sims led the charge in scoring for the Glow with 10 points as the team hit five shots from beyond the arc. Bell drained two while Gardner, Dallas Wings guard Grace Berger, and guard/Forward McKenzie Forbes each hit one.

Now, the Glow took a 74 – 61 lead into the fourth quarter.

All things considered, the Gold Rush could not catch up in the fourth as the Glow added 23 more on the board. Closing out Week Two, the Glow indeed went 3 – 0 with a 97 – 79 over the Gold Rush.

Glow Vs. Gold Rush Stats Recap

To begin, Sims won MVP 2 Honors with her 17 points on eight-of-13 shooting from the field and four assists in the Glow win. Gardner went three-of-four from three-point range, scoring 15 points in all. Furthermore, Bell shot four-of-six from beyond the arc with 14 points as Mack got her league-tying fourth double-double.

Mack put up 13 points and rebounds as she has 10+ boards in all six matchups. Sarah Ashlee Barker had another double-digit point game with 12 points.

Nurse took home MVP 1 Honors with 20 points in 25 minutes of play for the Gold Rush. Atlanta Dream guard Te-Hina PaoPao, Hall, and Muldrow put up 12 points apiece while Chen scored 10 points. It is important to note that Aces center Kiah Stokes grabbed 12 rebounds, averaging 11.2 a game.

Captains for Week Three Of Athletes Unlimited Basketball

For the first week this season, there will be four new captains in Athletes Unlimited Basketball. Sims sits in first place on the leaderboard and will lead the Gold Rush. Mack takes the helm of the Glow while Gardner leads the Rhythm. Finally, Peddy will be the leader of the Eclipse in Week Three. Barker missed out by 13 points for fourth place.
