Paige Bueckers was drafted No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings back in April and continues to show why she was the top pick.
Through 13 career WNBA games, she’s averaging 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists. She has also scored at least 20 points in four of her last five games.
The 23-year-old rookie is only going to get better and has the potential to become one of the league’s best. Speaking of the best, Bueckers was a guest on Front Office Sports’ "Nilosophy" podcast, where she was asked to name the top player in the WNBA right now.
Instead of naming just one player, she named two.
"Right now, imma say Phee [Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier] and A'ja [ Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson]," Bueckers said. "I couldn't name one."
Wilson and Collier finished first and second in WNBA MVP voting last season, with Wilson taking home the award. This season, they’re continuing to dominate as the league’s top two scorers. Collier is averaging 24.5 points per game, while Wilson is at 21.3.
Some might wonder why Bueckers didn’t name Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, but the reality is that Clark is still only 23 years old. The reigning Rookie of the Year is only going to improve, and by the time it’s all said and done, she could go down as the greatest women’s player of all time.
But for now, it’s Wilson and Collier who have racked up accolades year after year. Collier is a four-time All-Star, two-time All-WNBA First Team selection, 2024 Defensive Player of the Year and 2019 Rookie of the Year.
Wilson, on the other hand, is a three-time WNBA MVP, two-time WNBA champion, 2023 WNBA Finals MVP, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, six-time All-Star and four-time All-WNBA First Team selection.
