So far, Paige Bueckers of the Dallas Wings has had a fairly impressive rookie campaign.
Coming into Tuesday's game versus the Atlanta Dream, she was averaging 18.2 points and 5.9 assists a game while shooting 46.3% from the field. The former UConn star hasn't really been hitting from 3-point range yet, but one has to figure that part of her game will come around eventually.
In four seasons at UConn (she missed all of the 2022-23 campaign with an ACL injury), she made 42.3% of her attempts from downtown. However, perhaps her greatest ability offensively is her marksmanship from mid-range, especially off the dribble.
In a post on X that urged fans to vote for Bueckers to be in the All-Star game, the Wings gave her a new nickname: "Middy Princess."

⭐️ Vote now to send Paige Bueckers to the 2025 WNBA All-Star game: https://t.co/rdBI56nNs1 pic.twitter.com/oxwhX6kCUA
According to the WNBA, Bueckers ranked sixth in voting in the first fan return of All-Star game voting. She ranked ahead of notable players such as the New York Liberty's Sabrina Ionescu and Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky.
Bueckers' mastery of the mid-range game was a significant factor in the Huskies winning the women's NCAA championship a few months ago. She made herself eligible for the draft and was taken with the No. 1 overall pick by the Wings.
The Wings have been struggling as a franchise for many years and came into Tuesday with a 3-12 record, which is the second-worst record in the league. But Bueckers has been described as a generational talent, and she has therefore given the franchise the belief that it can become very competitive not too long from now.
