Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings entered Monday's game against the Phoenix Mercury with some high hopes. They were looking to make it three straight wins after taking down the Mercury, 98-89, at College Park Center on Thursday.
The Wings, however, came crashing back down to earth in Monday's rematch. The Mercury got their revenge from Thursday's loss with a massive 102-72 blowout win at home against Bueckers and Co.
Veteran guard Sami Whitcomb went off for Phoenix, dropping a career-high 36 points on seven triples. The 36-year-old caught fire early on, scoring 29 points in the first half alone, which is the first time any player has totaled 29 or more points in a half since A'ja Wilson in 2023.
It wasn't just Whitcomb who grabbed the spotlight in this one, though, with Alyssa Thomas making a bit of history herself. According to StatMuse, the six-time All-Star is the first player in league history to amass 15 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists ever.
Clearly, the Wings had no answer for both Thomas and Whitcomb in this one, and the final score is a testament to the same.
For her part, Bueckers had an off-shooting night on Monday, going just 3-of-11 from the field for 11 points. She will want to bounce back when the Wings return to action on Wednesday against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.
That will be the second out of Dallas' current three-game road trip, which will end on Sunday against Caitlin Clark ( if she plays ) and the Indiana Fever.
