PHOENIX — The Phoenix Mercury hosts the Chicago Sky on May 27 and looks to stay undefeated at home this season.
Mercury Preview
The Mercury defeated the Washington Mystics on May 25, 68-62, in a defense-heavy game. Phoenix forced 29 turnovers, the most in a non-overtime game in its history. With the win, the Mercury has allowed the fewest points in its first four games of a season since 2017.
Satou Sabally has been Phoenix’s offensive leader averaging 19.8 points, and shooting for 40.7% from the field. Alyssa Thomas leads Phoenix in rebounds, averaging 7.8, and assists, averaging 6.2.
Rookie Monique Akoa-Makani has shined for Phoenix this season, making the most of her minutes. She has averaged 10 points, shooting 50% from the paint, and 50% from three.
Sky Preview
The Sky have had a tough start to its season, going 0-3, and come to the desert searching for its first win. Chicago’s last game was a loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on May 25, 91-78.
Angel Reese led Chicago’s scoring with 13 points and had 12 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the loss. Ariel Atkins had five assists and forced three turnovers.
Courtney Vandersloot and Rebecca Allen have been the Sky’s most consistent offensive players, averaging 9.7 points each. Vandersloot leads with assists, averaging 3.3 per game. Reese leads the defense, averaging 13.7 rebounds and forcing 4.7 turnovers each game.
