Raven Johnson just wrapped up her WNBA rookie season with the Indiana Fever. She impressed her teammates and coaches, particularly late in the regular season and playoffs, showcasing what she’s capable of. The 23-year-old received a lot of praise for her strong performances, including from assistant coach Karima Christmas-Kelly, who posted a message for her on Instagram. She responded by reposting it on her story with a strong message.

Johnson earned more playing time and had her best playoff showing in Game 2 against the Las Vegas Aces. Although her six points and two rebounds are not eye-popping, she provided the team with a lot of energy and scored timely baskets. The South Carolina Gamecocks product added two points and four rebounds in Game 3 and was a +5 on the night. However, Indiana failed to dethrone the defending champions, losing 94-83.

Indiana Fever: Raven Johnson’s two-word message for Karima Christmas-Kelly

Christmas-Kelly uploaded a photo of her and Johnson with the caption “Proud of ya kiddo!” and tagged her. Johnson added a two-word message on her repost.

“Love you,” Johnson wrote, along with a red heart and face holding back tears emojis.

The interaction shows how much Johnson has endeared herself to the coaching staff. She has proven her worth and that she belongs in the WNBA, giving Fever fans more reason to be excited about the team’s future. This year’s No. 10 overall pick averaged 3.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 10.9 minutes through 39 regular-season games.

Indiana’s front office are facing big decisions in the offseason. The team has the talent to compete but was knocked out in the first round. Changes could be made with players and the coaching staff; however, Johnson will likely be a big part of the future. She has momentum on her side and has a chance to carve out a bigger role in her second season.
