Since signing Caitlin Clark , the Indiana Fever have become must-watch TV. But this week, headlines pivoted off-court thanks to a bold comment from team president Kelly Krauskopf—one that quickly blew up online.

Before Friday’s game vs. Atlanta Dream, Krauskopf described her big-picture goal for Indiana:

“Yes, we have a foundational player in Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, and we’re going to continue to add to that,” she said. “But I want this team to be the leader in the country and, you know, an enduring brand like Apple or something.”

Cue instant firestorm. Many fans seized on the “Apple” analogy, calling it a tone-deaf flex—more about dollars than dedication. Within hours, archives showed Krauskopf had pulled her X (formerly Twitter) account. No explanation. Just… disappeared.

“Fever President has deleted her account. You, guys,” one reaction popped up.

“Indiana Fever president Kelly Krauskopf has deactivated her Twitter account. Keep tagging and reposting these r****ds until they get the message,” another wrote.

Anger lit up feed after feed. Critics sounded off, accusing Krauskopf of ditching grit for glamour—chasing brand hype instead of building team culture. But here’s the thing: she’s not new. Under her watch, Indiana has bagged 14 playoff bids in 18 seasons, reached seven Eastern Finals, and snagged the 2012 WNBA championship. That legacy isn’t erased by one quote—but in today’s fast-scroll world, it only takes a few words to ignite a storm.

“It’s game over”: Caitlin Clark’s teammate sees greatness brewing in Indiana

While the front office dealt with backlash, Caitlin Clark and her teammates stayed locked in.

They beat Atlanta on Friday, and the locker room was buzzing. Veteran Sophie Cunningham put it simply:

“This is a special group… when people are smiling… it’s like, ‘Oh, yeah, we’re in it,’ and when other teams see that, it’s game over.”

It’s easy to get swept up in drama, but the real story is this: these players keep growing, setting the tone on and off X. They celebrate big performances, hype each other in comments, and build each other up constantly. That kind of energy stays with you.

So while the front office scrambles in the background, the Fever are quietly doing what they do best—playing with heart, making noise, and rewriting the narrative. Not as a brand. As a team.
