Sabrina Ionescu turned in a strong performance on Tuesday night, leading the New York Liberty to a 93-85 victory in the Commissioner's Cup final.
The four-time WNBA All-Star led her team in scoring with 26 points on 9-of-19 shooting. The 5-foot-11 guard also added five rebounds, five assists and five triples in 31 minutes of action.
Ionescu drained a dagger triple late in the game to give the Liberty an eight-point lead with 15.7 seconds remaining in the contest.
However, Ionescu's heroics were still not enough to earn the Commissioner's Cup MVP trophy. That honor belonged to her Liberty teammate Breanna Stewart, who registered a 25-point, 11-rebound double-double, with four assists, two steals and two blocks.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert presented Stewart with the trophy during the postgame ceremonies. However, before accepting the award, Stewart approached Ionescu to have a quick word.
When asked about their brief exchange, Stewart revealed that she offered to share the trophy with her All-Star teammate.
"I was just telling Sab, she deserves this, too," Stewart said. "So we can share this. You can take it home. We can share it."
Ionescu, who was seen cheering "MVP" for Stewart along with the rest of her teammates, quickly turned down the offer. She said no and shook her head. Clearly, the 28-year-old guard is adamant that it's Stewart who deserves the trophy.

This marks New York's second Commissioner's Cup championship after having won the title in 2023. It was Jonquel Jones who won the Cup MVP that year.
For Stewart, this is the second Commissioner's Cup MVP title in her collection. She also won the award after leading the Seattle Storm to the championship in 2021. The seven-time All-NBA forward is the only three-time Commissioner's Cup champion in WNBA history.
Ionescu, Stewart and the rest of the Liberty will celebrate Tuesday's triumph. However, they will need to get back to work soon.
Their next game is on Friday against the league-best Minnesota Lynx. New York will host that matchup at Barclays Center as it looks to improve on its 12-8 record.
