Salary for WNBA Mascot Position Revealed in New Job Posting

The defending champion New York Liberty will have a huge target on their back when the WNBA opens its 29th season on May 16.

Teams will aim to snag the crown from the Liberty, who won their first-ever title last season after beating the Minnesota Lynx in a pulsating series that went the distance.

One squad that could have an uphill climb against the league's contenders is the Golden State Valkyries. They will make history when they debut on opening day against the Los Angeles Sparks as the WNBA's newest expansion team.

The Valkyries will be led by Temi Fagbenle, Kayla Thornton, Kate Martin and Julie Vanloo. Natalie Nakase, who won two titles with the Las Vegas Aces as an assistant coach, will call the shots from the sideline.

But even before their maiden campaign begins, the Valkyries have already grabbed attention online because of their job posting for the team's mascot. The salary? $130 to $160 per hour.

Game day in the WNBA normally last for three to hour hours, including pre-game activities.

"We are looking for a part-time mascot to perform at Valkyries home games, team events, and outside appearances," wrote the squad on LinkedIn.

"The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, organized, and passionate about creating a fun and engaging atmosphere. The ideal candidate should have strong non-verbal communication skills, and bring creativity and humor to their performance."

Where do we sign up?

But seriously, being a team mascot isn't all fun and games. It can be physically taxing and emotionally tiring — just like most professions. However, regularly interacting with fans must be a treat.

The role will be especially important for a new squad like the Valkyries, as they look to make an impact immediately and garner interest as much as they can.

The Valkyries will face the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, May 11 to wrap up their preseason.
