Angel Reese had found a big-time supporter in Lisa Leslie. As she navigates her sophomore season at the league, the “Bayou Barbie” extended her gratitude to the WNBA icon for the guidance she gave.
Leslie previously dubbed Angel Reese as her modern-day version, a “2.0.” In fact, the two-time champion also appeared in the former LSU standout’s Unapologetically Angel podcast, where she advised Reese to improve on her layups, a feat that she has gradually improved in her games so far.
“Just the idea that you want to get better, like I love that. For me to hear from you, and see that you’re like, ‘Yes, I want you to work with me, I want you to help me, I want to get better’ — that’s what it’s about,” Leslie told Reese, making it clear that she’s backing the Chicago Sky star up.
Speaking after the Sky’s 97-86 victory against the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday, Angel Reese recalled how Lisa Leslie, who watched the game, pushed her to greater heights; such support was held very deeply by Reese that Leslie was featured as a cameo in the Sky guard’s McDonalds commercial early this year with Breanna Stewart and Aaliyah Del Rosario.
“She [Leslie] told me continue to work, “you’re a beast on the boards”…she’s an amazing woman…that’s a great big sister, mom, aunt…she doesn’t have to do it…that’s why this past year I put her in my McDonalds commercial..she’s a baddie…she deep down supports…she send me bible verses in the morning…and having her in the corner has been the best thing for me,” Reese said via Moreau Sports on X/Twitter.

Angel Reese had been constantly bombarded with criticisms pointing to her poor efficiency amidst high rebounds, which trolls summarized into the term “mebounds.” However, the Chicago Sky star has been showing impressive performances so far, and in the match against the LA Sparks, she scored 18 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and 50.0% efficiency.
The match also saw Reese achieve two milestones, the first being the fastest player in WNBA history to achieve 600 points and 600 rebounds in just two seasons. This was during the first quarter. After the match, the “Bayou Barbie,” according to Polymarket Hoops, is the fastest player in the league to reach 150+ rebounds and 50+ assists in a season.
