‘She’s Gonna Be a Problem’: Caitlin Clark’s Rival Turns Heads After Missing Entire WNBA Season

After nearly a two-year hiatus, Chennedy Carter returned to the spotlight at Crypto.com Arena, giving the fans flashbacks of her Chicago Sky days when she body-checked Caitlin Clark during the heated 2024 WNBA season.

The foul was later upgraded to a Flagrant 1 by the WNBA, and Carter faced heavy backlash after saying, “I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions.” But on Sunday, that criticism turned into applause as fans went wild over her explosive return against the Los Angeles Sparks.

“Chennedy Carter tonight

,” wrote Women’s Hoops Network on X. Fans quickly filled the comment section, cheering on her return to the WNBA.

And the fans have a reason to be excited for Carter’s return. Carter dropped 22 points and two steals in just 20 minutes to help the Las Vegas Aces roll past the Los Angeles Sparks 105-78 in the Sparks’ season opener.

They felt it more because of how the last year spanned for the young guard.

After the Chicago Sky’s 93-88 defeat against the Phoenix Mercury in 2024, Carter was not retained by the franchise. But, after a stunning 2025 season with the Chinese team Wuhan Shengfan, where she nearly won every possible award, the Las Vegas Aces handed her a contract in 2026.

And, Carter did not need a lot of time to prove her worth.

In the last three seasons, the Aces had the record of the lowest points scored from the restricted area. But with Carter’s attacking style, the Aces have found a perfect resolution to that problem.

In the preseason against the Japanese national team, she appeared as the Aces’ best performer. She then continued that momentum in the first game of the regular season, too.

WNBA Fans React to Chennedy Carter’s Big Comeback

The early signs of Chennedy Carter’s comeback were already visible during her preseason debut with the Aces against the Japanese national team. Coming off the bench, Carter led Las Vegas in scoring with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting while also adding 5 rebounds and a block in just 20 minutes.

She continued with the same form in the first game of the regular season, too.

With Carter now scoring like fun, the fans feel she is going to cause a lot of problems for other teams in the league, even off the bench.

“She’s gonna be a problem with them microwave buckets off the bench,” a fan wrote on X.

Although it is only one game in the season, fans feel she is back in her best.

“She’s backkkk,” one fan wrote, while others added, “She’s a beast

.”

One fan compared Carter’s aggressive scoring style with the Las Vegas Aces to prime Dwyane Wade, writing, “Prime Wade in her game. I love it,” while others called her “Female Allen Iverson.”

“Idc, Chennedy could always hoop fr. I like her game a lot tbh,” another user wrote while supporting the 27-year-old guard.

After this standout first game, some fans questioned the Chicago Sky’s decision to let Carter walk despite her averaging 17.5 points per game during the 2024 season.

“This the person that the Sky let go for absolutely no reason at all,” one fan added.

With the Las Vegas Aces now set to face the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, all eyes will be on Chennedy Carter to see whether she can continue with the form she has shown so far.
