DiJonai Carrington and the Chicago Sky have two games left on their schedule and looking to finish the season strong. They are on a five-game losing skid but winning their remaining games will give them momentum for the 2027 campaign. The veteran guard also made a personal request to her fans on Monday.
The Sky are coming off a 106-81 loss to the Atlanta Dream on Saturday. Carrington missed her fourth straight game as she suffered a flare-up in her foot on Aug. 25. She has been limited to just 11 games this year after sitting the first 27 games following knee surgery.
Gabriela Jaquez spearheaded Chicago’s charge with 14 points, while Kamilla Cardoso and Aicha Coulibaly contributed 11 each. The Sky, on the other hand, were led by Angel Reese’s 23, points, 10 rebounds and four assists. She became the first player in WNBA history to record 500-plus rebounds in a single season.
Carrington posted a photo of her niece on her Instagram story. It included a link where fans can vote for her as the youth athlete of the year. The 2024 WNBA All-Defensive first team member also tagged her handle on the social media platform.
“Everyone go vote for my niece for youth athlete of the year plsssss,” Carrington wrote along with four pink heart emojis.
The winner of the contest will win $25,000 and will represent 3Brand in Sports Illustrated and on CBS. Carrington’s niece showed off her athletic wear while wearing sunglasses.
Chicago will return to action on Tuesday to host the Toronto Tempo at Wintrust Arena. The team’s last game is on Thursday against the Washington Mystics. The Sky have had a challenging season and dealt with several injuries to some of their key players. They are 12th in the standings with a 15-27 record but have a good chance of snapping their losing streak at home.
