The Chicago Sky suffered a major blow recently when it was revealed that Rickea Jackson would miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury.
The injury hits kept coming for the Sky as promising rookie wing Gabriela Jaquez was ruled out for the team’s upcoming game against the Toronto Tempo, as per Meghan L. Hall of Yahoo Sports.
Gabriela Jaquez was listed as dealing with a knee injury as the cause for her being sidelined for the Sky’s game against the Tempo on Wednesday. The No. 5 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Jaquez has been among the most productive rookies in the league in the early goings of the regular season.
This will be the first game of her rookie season that Jaquez will miss after playing in the Sky’s first six games at a little over 28 minutes per game. She’s been averaging 11.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals with splits of 42.9 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 88.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
Jaquez was one of six UCLA players that were drafted this year following the Bruins’ national championship win. The other players selected were Lauren Betts and Angela Dugalic with the Washington Mystics, Gianna Kneepkens and Charlisse Leger-Walker with the Connecticut Sun and Kiki Rice of the Tempo.
The Sky have started off the season at 3-3 and are on a two-game losing streak heading into their game against the Tempo. This is Tyler Marsh’s second season as head coach.
The team underwent several roster changes in the offseason, bringing in free agents such as Skylar Diggins, DiJonai Carrington, Natasha Cloud and Azurá Stevens and making the trade for Jackson.
