It’s official. Caitlin Clark will not return this season due to a groin injury that has kept her sidelined since mid-July.

The Indiana Fever superstar took to social media to make the announcement on Thursday night, which quickly captured the attention of not only fans but also several prominent personalities in and around the basketball world.

One of whom is WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, who quickly left a comment on Clark’s announcement post. The Hall of Famer sent Clark a heartfelt message of support amid these trying times.

“So sorry but I know this decision will be the best for your future! ” Lesie wrote.

It is worth noting that Leslie went on the record last week to say that she believes Clark should sit out the rest of the year, citing her own experience with a similar injury.

"Do you want to see Caitlin Clark for the longevity of her career?” Leslie asked. “I'm just thinking, me personally, I would not put Caitlin Clark back on the floor this season, and the only reason why I say that is because I had the injury that she has.

“That deep groin injury is nothing to play around with. It can feel like you never had it. You make one move, one cut, and boom, she's back in the same spot."

As the WNBA icon implied in her comment, this decision could not have been an easy one to make for Clark, especially with the Fever in a precarious situation in the WNBA playoff race.

At the moment, Indiana is eighth in the league with a 21-20 record. The Fever are just 1.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks for the eighth and final playoff spot, which only means that the last three games remaining on its schedule will be pivotal for Indiana.

Apart from Clark, four other players have also suffered season-ending injuries for the Fever in 2025. Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson are all done for the season, while the team announced on Thursday that Chloe Bibby has also been shut down for the rest of the campaign.
