Sonia Citron Breaks Caitlin Clark's Rookie Record During Mystics-Sparks

Sonia Citron is having a tremendous rookie season in the WNBA. After being selected by the Washington Mystics with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft, the rookie guard has impressed while playing in every single game this season.

Not only has Citron been dependable, she has also been a major piece in the Mystics cog this season. While Citron wasn't as highly touted of a prospect as this year's No. 1 overall pick, Paige Bueckers, or last year's top-pick, Caitlin Clark, Citron has held her own as compared to impressive rookies in the league's history.

Sonia Citron Makes WNBA History

Citron scored 12 points against the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday. While that point total doesn't sound overly impressive, it led to a new WNBA-rookie-record.

This was game No. 36 that Citron scored at least 10 points this season, surpassing Clark for the most double-digit scoring games by a rookie in WNBA history.

The WNBA was quick to announce the historic news on their official X account.

While Citron will likely finish as the runner-up in Rookie of the Year voting to Bueckers this season, she has quietly had one of the better rookie seasons in recent memory. As per BETMGM, Bueckers is an overwhelming favorite (minus-5000) to Citron's odds of plus-2500.

Citron ranks No. 18 in the WNBA in points per game (15.1) and she leads the entire league in 3-point shooting (43.9%). She also ranks in the top-10 in minutes played (32.1) as well as free-throw percentage (88.0%). Citron was also named an All-Star this season.

Citron has also taken over a handful of Mystics' franchise-rookie-records. She holds the record for most points scored, most double-digit scoring-games, most consecutive double-digit scoring-games, and she also became the first Mystics rookie to ever post a 25-point, 10-rebound game.

While the Mystics have been eliminated from playoff contention, it appears they have found an important part of their future core in Citron. If Citron is to suit up in every game of the season, she'll have three more opportunities to score in double figures. Her next opportunity would come against the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday.
