Sophie Cunningham , guard for the Indiana Fever, recently showed up on the court as she took on Phoenix Mercury’s Kahleah Copper during Thursday’s game. In the third quarter, Cunningham chest-bumped Copper, who retaliated with a basic shove for which she received an offensive foul. While the moment was pretty brief, it was truly electric and even brought out a reaction from Caitlin Clark who seemed pretty proud of her teammate.
Unluckily for Sophie Cunningham, the Indiana Fever miserably lost to her former team with an embarrassing 95-60 final score. This makes the third straight game that the Indiana Fever has lost recently. It looks like the team is badly missing Caitlin Clark who is still not back from her groin injury.

Thursday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury had Indiana Fever leading on the scoreboard by Sophie Cunningham who managed to chalk up 18 points, with a pair of boards, while Kelsey Mitchell followed with 12 points and a single rebound. On Mercury’s side, it was DeWanna Bonner’s night, who put up an impressive 23 points, while Alyssa Thomas stunned as well with 18 points.
Fans were truly delighted to see the intense camaraderie that Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark seem to have. Despite this being her very first season with the Indiana Fever, Cunningham seems to have already made quite an impression on t he players and the fans, including the legendary Caitlin Clark.
With Thursday’s defeat against the Mercury, the Fever are ranked third in the Eastern Conference with 17 wins and 14 defeats. As of now, the team is ranked fifth overall and is definitely getting desperate to shake off their three-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Sophie Cunningham’s words are truly prophetic as the guard was hit by a sex toy that a fan threw on the court, just days after discouraging people from doing so in fear of being hurt. The last few WNBA games have been highlighted by sex toys being thrown onto the court, sparking condemnation and major criticism from players and other fans.
However, the toys are coming in, no matter what security concerns have been ramped up. Players like Cunningham and others have openly condemned both the WNBA and even misogynistic fans who are throwing sex toys at a women’s basketball game, just because women are playing the game. Luckily for her, Cunningham was not seriously hurt and was only hit on the ankle by the toy.
