It wasn’t just the fans who were left devastated by Caitlin Clark’s announcement on Thursday. Her Indiana Fever teammates were also saddened by the news that their cornerstone superstar would no longer be able to return this season due to a groin injury that has kept the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year sidelined for the past month and a half.
Clark is now the fifth Fever player to suffer a season-ending injury—all in the span of a month. Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson are all done for the year, while Indiana also announced the team’s decision to shut Chloe Bibby down for the rest of the campaign.
There’s no denying, however, that Clark’s loss is the biggest blow of them all.
The 23-year-old’s Fever teammates were quick to rally behind Clark after the season-ending injury decision.
“love you c❤️” commented Cunningham on Instagram.
“Miss you big dawgggggggg❤️❤️you’ll be back,” said Aliyah Boston.
“❤️ i’m with you, 22,” reacted Kelsey Mitchell.
“2026 going to be the best season yet ” declared Lexie Hull.
“❤️Big love twin,” Bibby said.
“❤️” posted Mikayla Timpson.
“That bounce back gone be something crucial ” McDonald commented.
A few other personalities from in and around the WNBA also showed their support for Clark amid these difficult times.
“You got this” wrote New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu.
“Love you cc, I’m proud of you,” reacted former Iowa teammate Kate Martin, who is now with the Golden State Valkyries.
“❤️❤️” commented Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton.
“❤️❤️❤️” posted Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery.
As of writing, Clark’s post has already amassed over 5,000 comments and 310,000 likes. There has been an outpouring of support for the two-time All-Star who now has a challenging road ahead of her as she looks to get back to full strength for next season.
As for the Fever, they will now need to carry on without Clark. They are currently eighth in the WNBA with a 21-20 record and three games remaining on their schedule. At the moment, they are just 1.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Sparks for the eighth and final postseason spot.
The good news for the Fever is that they get to host the Chicago Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Friday night. A win against their biggest rivals not only goes a long way in terms of securing a playoff berth, but it’s also going to be a great morale-booster for this injury-decimated squad.
