Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has been watching the WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations closely. In a recent episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast, the 6-foot-1 guard did not hold back in criticizing the league for their negotiating tactics.
This is exactly why Cunningham was celebrating with the rest of the WNBA after news hit on Wednesday that a verbal agreement is finally in place. The players’ union has agreed to the WNBA's terms, which means the new season will proceed as scheduled in May.
Cunningham, an unrestricted free agent, is expected to return with the Fever with a new deal.
Cunningham is not one to keep her feelings to herself. She used her platform to express her frustration toward the WNBA during the negotiations.
Apart from using her podcast to voice her opinions on basketball in general, Cunningham also shares personal updates on the show. She recently addressed a deeply personal matter involving her 35-year-old horse, Bea.
Cunningham previously announced the death of her beloved steed. On her podcast, the former Missouri Tigers star expressed how much Bea meant to her and her family.
Cunningham is doing her best to move on from the unfortunate development. On Wednesday, the Columbia, Missouri, native took to social media to announce her decision to get a new horse.
Cunningham shared a video of herself riding her new steed.
“first time riding my handsome new baby,” she captioned her Instagram post.
Cunningham grew up on a farm, where she was very fond of animals. She built a special connection with Bea, who had been with her family even before she was born. Cunningham isn’t replacing her, but rather, she’s celebrating Bea’s legacy by preserving her passion for horses.
Cunningham played 30 games for the Fever last season before her season-ending knee injury. She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.7 triples in 25.2 minutes per contest.
