The Indiana Fever have another crucial game on Sunday as they battle the Golden State Valkyries in a road matchup at Chase Center in San Francisco.

Entering the contest, the Fever are just half a game ahead of the Valkyries for the No. 6 spot in the WNBA. A loss for Indiana will see them fall to eighth in the standings and put them in danger of missing the playoffs entirely with four games remaining on their schedule.

Sophie Cunningham was not with the team for Sunday’s road game. The 6-foot-1 guard remained in Indianapolis as she continues to rehab her season-ending MCL injury. Cunningham, however, could not help but send an emotional message to her teammates after seeing the Fever’s post ahead of the game.

Indiana took to Instagram for its customary game-day outfits post right before tip-off. Cunningham is usually one of the stand-out stars in these posts. This time around, however, she was left on the outside looking in.

“miss my girls ” Cunningham wrote in the comments section.

Cunningham, who has averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.7 triples per game, has been a key piece for the Fever this season both on and off the court. The Fever have missed her services since she went down with a knee injury, and they have been doing what they can to fill the void.

Apart from Cunningham, Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson are also nursing season-ending injuries. Caitlin Clark remains out with a lingering groin injury, while Chloe Bibby was ruled out of Sunday’s contest due to a left knee issue.

Indiana’s backcourt, in particular, remains extremely shorthanded for Sunday’s big game against Golden State.
