The 2026 WNBA preseason has officially started. The Indiana Fever played their first preseason game against the New York Liberty. Indiana traveled to New York and won the game with a score of 109-91

Fever fans were happy to see the likes of Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark back on the court. They also got a glimpse of their highly touted rookie, Raven Johnson.

The 10th overall pick of the 2026 WNBA Draft was perfect from the field in her Fever debut. Johnson scored six points in 3-3 shooting. She also had eight assists, three rebounds, one steal and two blocks to round up her first official WNBA game.

Sophie Cunningham teases Indiana Fever teammate Caitlin Clark

Fever teammates Clark and Cunningham had mixed results in their first 2026 WNBA preseason game.

Clark was a bit rusty in their game against the Liberty. The two-time All-Star shot only 20% from the field and finished with seven points and four assists.

Cunningham, on the other hand, had the more efficient game. She shot 62.5% from the field and 50% from three. The former Missouri Tigers star finished with 13 points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist.

This was the duo’s first game together since last year, as both players suffered season-ending injuries during the 2025 campaign.

During a preseason team promotional video, Cunningham fired a playful shot at the Fever star.

In the interview, the Fever’s media team surprised Cunningham with a bunch of adorable puppies. The 6-foot-1 guard called over the puppies as she carried two of them.

“Are you a little overwhelmed? Come over here,” Cunningham said playfully.

Cunningham then called over two more and said, “You guys act like Caitlin’s brain.”

The Fever’s enforcer compared the puppies’ behavior to Clark’s active brain. Cunningham and Clark have a knack for trolling each other, and the former could not help but take another shot when the opportunity presented itself.

The two have been close since Cunningham joined Indiana last year. Fever fans will see what Year 2 holds for their guard tandem this 2026 season.
