Sophie Cunningham's 'Weird' Admission on Fever Rehab With Caitlin Clark

A photo of Sophie Cunningham, Caitlin Clark, and a few other members of their Indiana Fever teammates recently made waves on social media.

In it, Cunningham and Clark are seen posing alongside Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson and Chloe Bibby. What made the photo stand out is how it captured all five of the Fever players who have suffered season-ending injuries this season.

For Cunningham, it was a torn MCL in her right knee that led to her first season in Indiana being cut short. The 6-foot-1 guard underwent surgery in August and has since been on the road to recovery.

In Tuesday’s episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast, the 29-year-old provided an update on her rehab alongside Clark and her other Fever teammates.

"Actually, rehab is kind of fun," Cunningham said. "This sounds really bad because there's five of us in there and we're all going through it. Three of us are kind of doing the same rehab, which is weird.

"But I think I'm just doing more and it's progressing really, really well."

The Fever are indeed in a very peculiar situation. Season-ending injuries are not uncommon in professional sports, but for five players to suffer the same fate — within the span of one month — is undoubtedly a unique and unfortunate occurrence.

On top of that, three of them are dealing with somewhat similar issues, with Colson (torn ACL in left knee) and Bibby (swollen left knee) also nursing knee injuries like Cunningham. As she put it, it’s “weird” that three of them are going through the same rehab process at the same time.

Either way, the Fever have soldiered on. They may be shorthanded, but Indiana is now headed to the WNBA playoffs, where it will be hoping to improve on last season’s first-round exit.
