At this point in the season, it would be hard to argue against the notion that Kelsey Plum has been the Los Angeles Sparks' best player throughout the campaign.
The three-time All-Star, who joined the Sparks in the offseason after being traded by the Las Vegas Aces in a complex three-team deal, is currently averaging across-the-board career-high numbers of 20.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.7 steals in 12 games played thus far.
Plum is also knocking down 2.8 triples per game on a 37.4% shooting clip. Clearly, the two-time WNBA champion guard is thriving in her role as L.A.'s number one option.
The Sparks, however, were dealt a significant blow ahead of their game against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday. This is after Plum, who is averaging 36.0 minutes per game, was ruled out due to a left lower leg injury.
The extent of the injury is currently unknown, but what can be said for sure is that the issue is significant enough to force the Sparks to make a major decision on their star player.
6/17 Sparks Game Status Report vs. Seattle Storm:
— LA Sparks PR (@LASparksPR) June 17, 2025
#0 – Odyssey Sims – NWT – Personal Reasons
#10 – Kelsey Plum – OUT – Left Lower Leg
#12 – Rae Burrell – OUT – Right Knee
#20 – Julie Allemand – NWT – Overseas Commitment
#22 – Cameron Brink – OUT – Left Knee
This will be Plum's first missed game for the Sparks, and it remains unclear at this point if she will be forced to spend more time on the sidelines beyond Tuesday's contest.
It is worth noting that Plum's backcourt partner, Odyssey Sims, will also miss the Sparks game due to personal reasons, which further worsens the situation for the Sparks.
Back-up guards Ashlee Barker and Emma Cannon will likely see increased workloads amid L.A.'s current injury dilemma.
