Stephanie White’s Honest Admission on Caitlin Clark After Fever Loss

Gainbridge Fieldhouse was electric on Saturday as the Indiana Fever nearly completed a late rally against the New York Liberty before falling 90-88.

The Liberty erased a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit, fueled by two clutch free throws from Sabrina Ionescu and Natasha Cloud’s game-sealing steal on Caitlin Clark’s final drive.

Clark finished with 18 points and 10 assists, but her final 3-point attempt was "swatted" away by Cloud; a play both Clark and head coach Stephanie White believed should have drawn a foul.

In the aftermath, Clark was visibly upset, gesturing at the officials. Postgame, White echoed her star’s sentiment, saying "I thought she got fouled," per The Athletic's James Boyd.

White also added that the "disrespectful" officiating left her questioning several no-calls, including one on veteran DeWanna Bonner and an earlier whistle on Lexie Hull.

While with the Connecticut Sun, White posted a 55-25 record over two seasons and reached the semifinals both years. In 2023, she was named the WNBA Coach of the Year.

In her previous Fever tenure (2015-16), she guided Indiana to the 2015 WNBA Finals. As an assistant, she won a championship in 2012.

Returning to Indianapolis in November 2024, White inherits a roster brimming with potential, headlined by reigning Rookie of the Year, Clark.

Clark led all rookies in scoring (19.2 ppg) and became the first true rookie ever to lead the league in assists (8.4 apg).

She earned both WNBA All-Star and All-WNBA honors in 2024, shattering single-game and single-season assist records.

The Fever finished 20-20, secured the sixth seed, and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
