The Indiana Fever entered the season with heightened expectations after a 2024 playoff berth and the hiring of coach Stephanie White, who previously coached the team from 2015–2016.
Despite this, the team is just narrowly above .500 and barely clinging to a playoff spot.
While Indiana fights for wins over the stretch run of the WNBA season, White took a moment to single out one veteran who has been pivotal for them this year, Brianna Turner.
"Breezy has been the consummate pro. She’s a great locker room person. She understands her role and she comes in and impacts. We often say ‘Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready,’ She’s one that you don’t have to worry about. She’s also a really high-IQ player. We trust her."
Turner, 29, is in her seventh WNBA season and first with Indiana after five years with the Phoenix Mercury (2019-2023) and one with the Chicago Sky (2024).
Known primarily for her defense and rebounding, she has appeared in 18 games this season for Indiana, averaging 0.5 points, 1.0 rebounds and 0.3 blocks in 5.2 minutes per game.
Despite modest averages, Turner’s rebounding rate (9.7%) and defensive rating (90.2) reflect her continued value as a situational defender.
She also brings invaluable playoff experience from her years in Phoenix, including a trip to the 2021 WNBA Finals, a season in which she averaged career highs of 7.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, along with 1.8 assists and 1.3 blocks in 31.1 minutes across 32 contests (32 starts).
The Fever are currently 19-16 on the season and 6–4 in their last 10 games, holding a one-game lead over the Golden State Valkyries for the sixth seed.
Remaining games include three against the league-leading Lynx, plus contests with the Seattle Storm, Los Angeles Sparks, Washington Mystics, Phoenix, Chicago and Golden State.
The top eight teams qualify for the postseason regardless of conference.
While stars like Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have carried the scoring load with franchise guard Caitlin Clark sidelined, postseason success often hinges on role players who can deliver in short, high-pressure stints.
Indiana returns to action Friday, hosting the Lynx at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. With playoff positioning on the line, every possession and every contribution, however brief, will matter. Turner’s readiness ensures she’ll be part of that equation.
