The Connecticut Sun put the finishing touches on a disappointing season Wednesday night in an 88-72 loss to Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream. Connecticut closed the season with an 11-33 record - good for third-to-last place in the WNBA.

A number of records and career achievements were spread across both teams as Griner passed Hall of Famer Swin Cash for 16th on the WNBA's all-time rebounding list. Meanwhile, Dream teammate Rhyne Howard became just the ninth player in league history to make 100 or more three-pointers in a season.

But the achievements weren't just for the Dream. Saniya Rivers set a Sun rookie record with 43 three-pointers this season while Tina Charles, the team's leading scorer, dropped nine points to eclipse 700 points this season, the first time in her 14-year WNBA career she's hit the mark.

Marina Mabrey Delivers Disappointing News to Sun

Sun guard Marina Mabrey, the team's second-leading scorer, dropped a game-high 22 points in the 16-point loss on Sept. 10 while adding five assists, one rebound and one assist. Following the contest, Mabrey spoke with reporters and seemingly confirmed her intent to be back with the team next season.

"So yeah," I'll be back next season," Mabrey said during a post-game interview. She later clarified that she meant she was coming back healthy next season, not necessarily committing to playing for the Sun next season, according to beat writer Gabby Alfveby.

Mabrey was traded by the Chicago Sky to the Sun in July 2024 and immediately became an impact player, finishing second in scoring and helping the team to a playoff run.
