Chicago Sky star Angel Reese is clearly one of the most promising young stars in the WNBA today. In just two years, she has established herself as an All-Star and a double-double threat, averaging 14.1 points and 12.9 rebounds on top of 2.7 assists and 1.4 blocks.
With Reese's consistency and incredible production, Team USA selected her to be part of its roster for the FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament. Her fellow young players like Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, Kiki Iriafen and Rae Burrell also made the team.
Reese received more exciting news on Wednesday ahead of her senior debut for the national team. USA Basketball announced that the Sky forward would start as the team kicked off the qualifiers against Senegal in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The two-time All-Star got the starting nod alongside Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Dearica Hamby and Jackie Young.
Naturally, the decision sparked plenty of excitement among fans.
"ANGEL REESE IS THAT GIRL," a commenter wrote. Another one said, "Yesssss Angel."
A fan added, "Let’s go Angel!!!! Love this starting 5 similar to what I thought it would be …Happy for j-yo to be to show wha she can do"
"Big angel not the lil," a supporter shared.
"YEAH BIG 9," a poster exclaimed.
A sixth poster stated, "Big Reese!!!"
It will certainly be interesting to see if Reese gets more starts for Team USA as the competition progresses. However, starting in her very first game as part of the senior team is certainly a massive honor.
After Senegal, USA will play Puerto Rico, Italy, New Zealand and Spain next.
