The Indiana Fever tipped off their 2025 WNBA regular season at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the Chicago Sky in a wire-to-wire win. The final score would be 93-58 in the largest Fever win on opening day in franchise history. That was not the only history made either. Veteran DeWanna Bonner, whom the Fever added this offseason, passed Tina Thompson on the WNBA’s All-Time scoring list. Let’s dive into the action starting on Saturday.
There was plenty of history made in the first game of the WNBA season for both the Sky and Fever. The first player to highlight is Catlin Clark, who had a 20-point triple-double. Then Aliyah Boston had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a dominant performance.
It would be safe to say that after just one game together, the Fever are the real deal and are WNBA Finals contenders. It would be Angel Reese who kept the Sky in the game with a double-double performance herself. That was not enough as the Sky shot 29.1% from the field and 22.2% from behind the arc. That will not get the job done. If that was not enough action, things got heated between Clark and Reese.
Then temperatures would get hot when Clark would foul Reese in what would be called a flagrant one after review from the refs. Then both Reese and Boston would receive techs for their involvement after the play. At the end of the day, the Indiana Fever came out and showed why they were the favorites to win it all with a 35-point win to open the regular season.
The rivalry between Clark and Reese is real. The two of them could not be a better sign for the future of the WNBA. The Fever will host the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday. Clark, with 20 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds, moved into third place on the all-time triple-doubles list. Stay tuned to Total Apex Sports for all things WNBA.
