Caitlin Clark ’s rookie season with the Indiana Fever has been anything but smooth. After missing games due to a groin injury, the guard’s progress was further delayed by a more recent ankle issue. Still, analysts believe there’s reason for optimism.

Robin Lundberg pointed out on The Dan Patrick Show that while the latest setback has slowed things down, Clark is actually close to putting her biggest health scare behind her.

“It’s pretty clear Caitlin Clark was nearing a return from the groin injury when the ankle issue happened, stalling things. The silver lining being that the more major problem is about resolved,” Lundberg explained.

That observation echoes what many around the WNBA have noted: the Fever star isn’t just recovering, she is trending toward a full return once her body can handle the workload. The team has been cautious, especially given Clark’s importance to their long-term plans.

Even with the delays, Caitlin Clark’s influence is undeniable. Indiana’s schedule has tested the roster’s depth, and fans are eager to see her back on court where she can dictate play. For now, the message is simple—patience. The finish line may feel far, but according to those tracking her progress, Caitlin Clark is much closer than it looks.

Sophie Cunningham Explains Why Caitlin Clark’s Return Has Taken Longer

Finally, a little peek into Caitlin Clark’s current state. Sophie Cunningham gave a candid perspective on Clark’s ongoing recovery, stressing that her absence isn’t just about waiting for injuries to heal. Speaking on the Show Me Something podcast, Cunningham explained that the WNBA’s competitiveness makes Clark’s return more complex.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) reacts to a call from he referee with Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, during the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Indiana Fever defeated the Phoenix Mercury, 107-101.

“Yeah, she’s close, but like you also have to remember, like she could be playing if it wasn’t in the WNBA by now. At this level, with how deep and like how good people are nowadays in our league, which is the best it’s ever been,” Cunningham said.

She added that it’s not enough for Clark to simply be healthy—she has to be ready to meet the physical and mental demands of elite competition.

“You can’t just be good. You have to be on top of your game. And so, just trying to get her back in game shape, I think, is what they’re trying to do,” Cunningham continued.

The Fever have made it clear that they won’t rush her, but Cunningham’s comments highlight that Clark’s full-speed return is closer than fans might think. Fans are eager, so is the Fever as they lock in on their own play-offs spot.
