'Two places at once': WNBA roasted after botching Cheryl Reeve Hall of Fame post

On a night celebrating the induction of former Minnesota Lynx stars Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles into the Pro Basketball Hall of Fame, the WNBA is being criticized for claiming Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve was at the ceremony when she was 3,000 miles away coaching the Lynx.

While Moore and Fowles were being inducted in Springfield, Mass., Reeve was with the Lynx in San Francisco, leading them to a 78-72 win over the Golden State Valkryies.

What error did the WNBA make? It claimed Reeve was in a group photo of Lynx luminaries. The people in the actual photo included team owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez, Moore and Fowles, and fellow former Lynx stars now in the Hall of Fame Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus and Katie Smith.

"I was thrilled to be able to be in Springfield at the Hall of Fame induction. I don't know if you saw, but the WNBA social media shared that I was there," Reeve said sarcastically after the Lynx earned their 33rd win of the season.

"I was thrilled to be able to be there and be a part of this big win for the team. It's always special to be able to share in something like that with your players," she added, maintaining sarcasm.

The Lynx's social media took advantage in a playful way, posting on X that Reeve became the "first coach in WNBA history to be in two places at once."

The Lynx account then photoshopped Reeve into the picture and posted it for all to laugh.

Not everyone was having fun with the error, though. Matthew Coller, an avid WNBA supporter and Minnesota Vikings reporter via his independent Purple Insider Substack, was aghast by the mistake.

"The WNBA's main account having no idea what Cheryl Reeve looks like and then leaving the tweet up for 3 hours is absolutely par for the course," Coller posted on X, adding that the league's "main account not even realizing the Lynx are playing before hitting send is just astonishing."

KFAN-FM 100.3's Justin Gaard — he works for the radio home of the Lynx — was also stunned. "Breathtaking. Even for them. Only the best coach in league history," he said.

If you're shocked, keep in mind that WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert wore a New York City-themed dress to Game 5 of last season's WNBA Finals between the NEW YORK LIBERTY and the Lynx. Was her 10,000 Lakes dress at the dry cleaner?
