Paige Bueckers was one of the only bright spots for the Dallas Wings during the 2025 WNBA season. The Wings tied for having the worst record in the league, finishing the year at 10-34, resulting in them firing head coach Chris Koclanes after just one season at the helm.
Bueckers, whom the Wings drafted with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, led the team in points (19.2), assists (5.4), steals (1.6) and blocks (0.5). Her stellar season saw her named a WNBA All-Star, while also coming two votes shy of unanimously winning the WNBA Rookie of the Year award.
With the team needing to put the right pieces around her, arguably the most important decision they make is finding the right head coach.
While plenty of names have been tossed around, one that has certainly piqued the interest of many is former New York Liberty head coach Sandy Brondello. She was fired after the Liberty were eliminated in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs, which was considered a failure after winning the title the season prior.
According to Jake Fischer of the Stein Line, there are plenty of signs that point to Brondello being the next head coach.
"And that has led various league sources to point to (Sandy) Brondello as a contender to be the next head coach for Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers," wrote Fischer.
In addition to winning a title with the Liberty in 2024, Brondello also coached the Phoenix Mercury to a championship in 2014.
Aside from a winning pedigree, as she has compiled a 271-181 record as a head coach, Brondello has extensive experience. She has 13 years of experience as a WNBA head coach, and also coaches the Australian national team.
The coaching search is still ongoing, but Brondello has to be an intriguing name for a Dallas franchise that will be on its sixth coach since 2018.
