There’s a lot at stake in Sunday’s matchup between the Indiana Fever and the Golden State Valkyries. Both teams are in the hunt for a playoff spot with the regular season coming to a close, and the result of Sunday’s contest will have a significant impact on the race.

In an anticlimactic turn of events, however, the Fever-Valkyries game encountered an extended delay due to a shot-clock issue. The first stoppage happened roughly two minutes into the opening quarter after the shot clock failed to reset. The problem was resolved after a delay of approximately five minutes.

It did not take long before the problem resurfaced. The game was stopped again, less than a minute after the first delay. This time around, however, the arena staff took considerably longer to address the issue. The second delay lasted nearly 30 minutes, during which some players headed back to the locker room.

The shot clock problem was eventually resolved, and play was resumed, but the incident caused an unwanted ripple in what should have been an exciting contest.

The Valkyries, who were hosting the game at Chase Center, issued a statement to address the issue at hand.

"Earlier today the Golden State Valkyries were delayed due to a technical issue with the shot clocks due to a power outage this morning. Game play has resumed, and these issues will be addressed accordingly," the team stated, via Fever beat reporter Chloe Peterson of IndyStar.

It’s a good thing the problem was resolved and that the game was able to continue, albeit following a considerable delay. The worst possible scenario would have been the game getting cancelled, which would have placed both the Valkyries and the WNBA in an embarrassing situation.

At the end of the game, it’s the Valkyries who are up in this one. The home team emerged victorious, maintaining the scoreboard at 75-63.
