The Golden State Valkyries and Phoenix Mercury meet in the WNBA tonight. Tipoff is set for 10:00 p.m. EDT at PHX Arena in Phoenix, Ariz. The game will be broadcast live on ION.
The Mercury are favored by -6 on the spread, with the over/under set at 155.5 (-110o / -110u). The Mercury are a -265 favorite to win outright, while the Valkyries are +210 to pull off the upset.
Let’s get in to my Valkyries vs. Mercury predictions and WNBA picks.
The Valkyries head to Phoenix for a Friday night showdown against the Mercury.
The Mercury are playing their second game in as many days and will be at a rest disadvantage. They also lost Kahleah Copper (ribs) mid-game against the Aces last night on what should have been called an illega l screen. She doesn’t have an injury designation at the time of this writing, but that’s likely due to reporting requirements rather than being a positive for her health. We’ll see if she can go tonight.
The Valks are missing a number of players. Cecilia Zandalasini who had been red-hot from 3 is slated to miss this one along with Monique Billings. They’ve also listed both Iliana Rupert and Carla Leite as Questionable.
One player that has smashed in this matchup is Veronica Burton. She has averaged 19 points in three games and just racked up a whopping 14 assists just 3 days ago in their last matchup. I think Burton will come into this matchup confident and if Kah is limited or can’t go then that’s one of the Mercury’s best screen navigators missing. Her Points + Assists (PA) line is set at 17.5 which is a touch high for her but the matchup has been favorable.
This is a good schedule spot for the Valkyries having last played in this same matchup while the Mercury on playing their second game in as many days. The spread is Valks +6.5 and I’m interested in that. I’ll also play Burton over 17.5 PA as she looks to continue her MIP campaign.
Best Bet: Valkyries +6 and Veronica Burton Over 17.5 Points + Assists (+178, FanDuel)
