On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Sparks announced that veteran coach Latricia Trammell is returning to the franchise as a special assistant to Head Coach Lynne Roberts.

Trammell, who most recently served as head coach of the Dallas Wings in 2023 and 2024, is no stranger to Los Angeles. She was previously an assistant coach for the Sparks from 2019 to 2022, and now rejoins the organization in a familiar role.

Her coaching career spans three decades, beginning in 1994, with extensive experience at both collegiate and professional levels, before transitioning to the WNBA ranks with the San Antonio Stars in 2017.

“I’m incredibly honored and grateful to return to the Los Angeles Sparks — an organization that holds a special place in my heart,” Trammell said in a team release.

Her return comes during a challenging season for the Sparks, who are working to rebuild under Roberts during her first season as head coach. While the team has shown flashes of potential, they’ve struggled to find a consistent footing in the standings.

The Sparks are 8-14 and would not make the playoffs if the postseason were to begin today.

Adding a coach with Trammell’s familiarity and experience could bring added stability and insight to a young roster still trying to find its identity.

Trammell earned praise during her initial run in Los Angeles and in Dallas for her defensive coaching and player development. Her relationships within the organization and the league-wide respect she commands make her a valuable addition during a transitional time for the Sparks.

With Trammell back on the sidelines in Los Angeles, the Sparks are hoping her return will provide a boost, both in leadership and culture, as they continue to build toward long-term success.
