WNBA 3-Time All-Star Sets Career Record Amid Brittney Griner's Absence

With Brittney Griner ruled out due to an injury, one player on the Dream stepped up in her absence and had a career night from the 3-point line.

The Atlanta Dream were able to take care of business at home against the Phoenix Mercury, defeating them 95-72 on Friday evening. Coming into the game, the Dream were going to be down two starters, as Rhyne Howard is still sidelined with a knee injury, and Brittney Griner was ruled out with a neck injury.

The Dream did not start the game well, as they went down 10-2 early, but after that, the tide definitely shifted. They found themselves up 18-15 and didn't look back from there. The Dream had their best offensive half of the season, and their best defensive quarter of the season, all in the same game.

It was Allisha Gray who helped turn up the offense, as she finished with 26 points, but also made a career-high in 3-pointers with seven. At one point, it didn't look like Gray could miss, and she was taking shots from anywhere. With Griner and Howard out, someone was going to have to pick up the offensive load, and it was the 3-time All-Star who did what she had to do.

Other players on the team stepped up as well, and Brionna Jones, Maya Caldwell, and Naz Hillmon all finished in double digits. Jordin Canada was the one dishing out all the assists, and had 11 to finish the game.
