It’s hard to deny that Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark is the most recognizable figure in the WNBA right now. So much so, that even the biggest stars in the league have felt the impact of Clark’s massive influence on the fans.

This was the case for Washington Mystics rookie Sonia Citron, who made her first WNBA All-Star Game appearance over the weekend. In a recent interview, the former Notre Dame standout revealed a case of mistaken identity involving Clark.

"I would say something weird happened when I got recognized because it wasn't me," Citron said. "... I was at a restaurant with my two friends from Notre Dame in South Bend, and this guy came up to me and was like super excited and was like, 'Oh my goodness, are you Caitlin Clark?' ... He asked me if I could get a signature picture, and I was like, 'It's not me.'"

Citron did not go into detail as to how the fan reacted after learning that they were, in fact, not in the presence of Clark. There must have been some level of disappointment there — as well as a bit of embarrassment — but the silver lining is that at least they still got the chance to interact with a bona fide WNBA star.

Is Sonia Citron the Next Caitlin Clark?

To be fair, there is some resemblance between Clark and Citron in terms of their physical appearance. One could also say that there are some similarities in how these two have taken the league by storm as rookies.

Right now, Citron has established herself as one of the top young stars in the league. The 6-foot-1 guard is averaging 13.8 points on 44.5% shooting, to go along with 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.6 triples per game.

Thanks in part to Citron’s strong play, the Mystics are currently in contention for a playoff spot this season. Washington has an 11-12 record at the moment and is sitting on the eighth and final playoff spot in the league.

Clark’s impact on the league, however, has been unprecedented. She broke all sorts of WNBA records in her debut campaign en route to winning the Rookie of the Year title.

Citron has a bright future ahead of her, but she’s just no Caitlin Clark. To state it plainly, the Fever superstar is one-of-one.
