The WNBA announced penalties for multiple players involved in a rowdy contest between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun during the Commissioner's Cup on Tuesday, June 17.

The primary skirmish in the contest involved Fever point guard Caitlin Clark getting shoved to the ground by Marina Mabrey after the whistle on a foul call against Connecticut. However, that was far from the only serious incident of the night, which has had fans and analysts criticizing the league and its referees over the past 24 hours for failure to control the game.

In response, the WNBA levied several fines against multiple perpetrators on both teams, though decided not to suspend any of the players involved.

"The Fever’s Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, as well as the Sun’s Marina Mabrey, Jacy Sheldon, Tina Charles and Lindsay Allen all had various roles in several scraps between the two sides on Tuesday night," Camden Markel of the New York Post reported Wednesday. "Cunningham, who was ejected for a hard foul and the ensuing scuffle that arose afterward, received a fine from the WNBA on Wednesday, and Mabrey, who initially only received a technical foul during the game after shoving Clark in the third quarter, got her foul upgraded to a flagrant 2, which comes with a fine."

The precise fine amounts were not disclosed by the league, Markel added in her report.

Indiana won the contest by a score of 88-71, advancing to the finals of the Commissioner's Cup. Clark led the way with 20 points, six assists and two steals

The Fever will next take the court against the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday night, June 19. The game will air on Amazon Prime.
